Marantec M3-631 Wireless Keyless Keypad

Marantec M3-631 Wirless Keyless EntryThe Marantec M3-631 Wireless Keyless Entry System. Marantec isn't the first company to make a keyless entry but what a great invention. The keyless entry has been around for a number of years but it still ranks as one of the best additions to the electric garage opener. No longer do you need to carry those bulky house keys around. Just enter four digits (if you remember them) and your in the garage. I've actually met people who depend solely on the keyless entry to get into their house (maybe your one of them). Not a very good idea. If the power goes out your stuck outside until it comes back on. I suggest if you do this that you at least hide a house key outside under a rock or something.

The Marantec M3-631 Wireless Keyless Entry is a 315MHz unit. It will work with all of the Marantec operators that have the 315MHz radio receiver. If you look on the back of your remote control you'll see the frequency printed on it - if it is 315MHz then the M3-631 is compatible with your operator.
Marantec Garage Door Operator Remotes
You can control up to 3 Marantec garage door operators with one keyless entry. For the keyless entry system to work you'll need to transfer the code from a working M3-2312, M3-2314, or M3-3313 remote control using a jumper cable. If you have one of the older model remotes from the ML series you'll need to request an "old to new" jumper cable when you order it.

One note of warning about the M3-631 Marantec keyless entry - there is a plastic membrane over the keypad numbers. Do not use your car keys, fingernails, or any other sharp object to press on the numbers. If you do then it will eventually damage the keypad. Some people have said they've done this because the numbers weren't lighting up when they pressed them with their fingers. If the numbers don't seem to be responding to the pressure of your finger then take the keypad off the jamb. There's a screw on the bottom of the mounting plate - turn it and the keypad will lift off. Take the 4 screws off the back and pull the keyless apart. Inside is a rubber membrane with nubs that depress the actuators on the control board. If these get misaligned sometimes the numbers won't light up. Make sure that it is seated so they depress properly. Check the batteries while you're in there to make sure they're not dead. Put the screws back in and tighten. Test the unit and see if it works any better (8 times out of 10 it will).

That's about it for the M3-631 Marantec Wireless Keyless Entry System. Just another one of those things that makes our lives a little bit easier.

UPDATE: AS OF 05/01/14 the M3-631 Marantec Keyless was discontinued and replaced with the New M13-631 Keyless Entry. Click Here for more information

I just bought a Marantex M3-631 Wireless Keyless Keypad. I cannot get it to accept the code to operate the garage door. I plugged the programming connecter into the terminal area. Then I connected the active remote. I then press the transmit button on the active remote. When I then press enter on the new Keyless Keypad, the directions say that the "Keypad Illumination" light will turn on. The small LED light above the number 5 lights up once, that is all. The "Keypad Illumination" light does nothing. If I continue following the directions, nothing else really happens. I am stumped. I have read the directions several times. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gil

Hi Gil,
I'm thinking the problem may be one of two things. First, check & make sure the frequency of your remote is 315MHz. If it isn't then the M3-631 won't work. Second, make sure you press & HOLD (key word is HOLD) the remote button the entire time during the programming process. A lot of people press & release it and the programming doesn't work.

Hope this helps. If not then email me at store@garagedoorzone.com and we can discuss it further.

Help, I have the same issue - i have the correct frequency remote and i do press and hold BUT the keypad still does not open the door - is there something that needs to be reset on the actual garage door opener - all we are doing is replacing the old wireless keypad with a new one ??

Hi LB,

Another thing you may want to check are the 4 screws on the back of the keyless. Take all 4 screws out & make sure the membrane that lays inside is seated properly. Put the keyless back together & tighten the screws. We've found that if the screws are just a little bit loose then the keyless doesn't always want to work. If that doesn't work then feel free to email me at: store@garagedoorzone.com and perhaps I can figure something else out.

I am having the same problem, it feels like either poorly written instructions or a faulty unit. Any body know what the trick is here. Frequency is fine. Will check the membrane.

Simple questions:
a) how far in do you push the programming connector?
b) Pressing ENTER does not illuminate keypad - now what?
c) Is there a time limit on entering your 4 digit code?
d) If these steps fail do you need clear memory? and start over?
e) Currently the light function doesn't work or is not programmed on the existing remotes, can I skip the step? ♦

RMBPMP - it sounds like the membrane may be misaligned - that's the 1st thing I'd check. Make sure that you tighten the 4 screws on the back. Other than that it could be a battery. Hope this helps.

How do you synchronize the M3-613 (wireless entry remote) and a M3-2312? We can get one or the other to work with the system but not both at the same time. When we moved into the house we were not left with a programming connector.

Taylor - you need the programming connector to program both the remote and keyless entry. If you give us your email address we'll give you our mailing address where you can send us a self addressed stamped envelope & we'll send you the programming connector for free. Our email address is: store@garagedoorzone.com

I had the same issue of not being able to transfer from the car fob to the keyless entry. The light would not turn on when I pressed the enter button. It ended up that the keyless entry plastic did not fit quite right and so the plastic did not guide the connector over the contacts. I squeezed the plastic together from the top and bottom with my fingers while my wife typed the code and it worked. Something worth trying.

This keyless entry system would really help me out with my garage. I love how this gadget looks. It is compact, and one of the factors that I loved most about it was the membrane keypad. With it, the keypad looks flat and diminishes bulkiness in the best of ways.

Yes, I believe that this M3-631 Marantec keyless entry system is useful in my garage. The design of the product is innovative and elegant since it's features include the membrane keypad. I can slip it in my purse whenever I'm out for dinner or some important appointments.

Love the keypad but we had an issue getting it programmed. Turns out this is a 2 person operation. 1 to hold the transmitter button and to squeeze the wireless piece while the other puts in the code. Not sure what the fix to that is but once it is programmed you are all good.

How do you remove old codes? Bought a house with some codes already programmed..Thank you so much

You need to reprogram the keyless with a new pin number. See our post: Marantec Keyless - Programming for instructions.
