This is an extension of GarageDoorZone.com where we sell Marantec, Liftmaster, Raynor and Linear garage door opener remotes and parts. We also offer garage door hinges, rollers and other repair parts. We often get asked a lot of garage door questions so it seemed logical to start a blog so we could present the most commonly asked questions to our customers. We also wanted to be able to give insight into new products and solutions as they become available.Brianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15474002779742260147noreply@blogger.comBlogger108125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3585950660058307229.post-13956155848909693632019-09-22T11:45:00.002-04:002019-09-22T15:22:26.714-04:00Marantec 382 Digital 2-Button RemoteWhether you lost your remote or just want to get a spare the Marantec 382 Digital Remote is the one to use for your Marantec garage door opener. The 2-button remote can be used to work two separate Marantec garage door openers.

The 382 Digital Remote is compatible with the Synergy Solo, Synergy 260, Synergy 270, Synergy 280, Synergy 360, Synergy 370 and Synergy 380 Marantec model openers. It's also compatible with models M4500e, M4700e, M4900e, M4500ECO, M4700ECO, M50, and M55. If you have an older model Marantec opener it may be compatible but you'll need to check if your opener uses 315MHz frequency radio receiver. We recommend you read the article "How to Find The Correct Marantec Garage Door Opener Remote" first to help you determine if the 382 Digital Remote is compatible.
There are different styles, button configurations and models that seem to come and go every couple of years. And with those changes there are also differences in radio frequencies that the remotes use so matching up the correct remote to your Raynor opener can be confusing.

Finding the right remote to work with your opener no longer has to be confusing though with the introduction of the Liftmaster 893MAX Remote a few years ago. The 893MAX is a 3-button remote
that can work on 390MHz and 315MHz frequencies and be programmed to work three garage door openers. It is backwards compatible which means it can replace all of the previous models of remotes of which many have been discontinued.

As far as a compatible replacement for Raynor garage door openers it will work on all Raynor garage door openers manufactured since 2000. There's a list below of all of the Raynor openers that the 893MAX Remote will work with. If you have an older Raynor Flitestar or R-Series garage door opener then please read our other blog post: Raynor Remotes Part II - Flitestar and R-Series Openers. A month or so ago I addressed remote controls for the newer style of Raynor operators (Pilot, Aviator, Commander, etc.). Now I'm going to cover the remotes for the Raynor Flitestar and R-Series (R110/210, R120/220, R130/230, R150/250, R160/260 and R170/270) garage door operators.

First, the radio receiver for the Flitestar and R-Series of operators is not built into the units like the current operators. This means that the installation company or distributor you got the operator from added the receiver when it was installed. This can cause some problems when trying to help customers because there were many different radio receivers on the market 10 or 20 years ago that the installer could have used so I can't cover them all. I will cover the one's we've used and are still available. If you don't see yours below then the receiver & remotes may or may not still be available. The best thing to do is to email us at: store@garagedoorzone.com and I'll try to help you. Please include the make and model number of the radio receiver attached to the opener (you will probably have to remove the receiver and look on the back for this information).

You can also watch the video below that will help explain what information is needed to locate the correct remote for your garage door opener.

Linear - very common in the 1980's to early 90's. This equipment is still being manufactured. If you have a Linear Delta-3 radio receiver then the Linear DT-1 Remote is what you need. There are 8 DIP switches in the remote that are matched up to the 8 switches on the back of the radio receiver. This was good reliable radio equipment and is still being used by some.

Liftmaster - in the late 80's this equipment started to become popular and is probably the most popular radio equipment on the market today. If you have a model #500RGD (500LM) radio receiver then you'll probably have the #61RGD 1-button remote or #63RGD 3-button remote. These remotes are easy to distinguish by the red LED light on them and the 9 trinary DIP switches in the battery compartment. The 61RGD Remotes are no longer available but you can use the 61LM Remote which is the same. The 63RGD also is no longer available but the 33LM Remote is a compatible replacement.
The next model of remotes by Liftmaster to come out were the #81RGD 1-button and #83LM 3-button remotes. These are the 390MHz "Billion Code" style remotes and worked with the #520RGD and #540RGD radio receivers. They eliminated the DIP switches and incorporated the "Smart Button" technology into the #8xx series of remotes making the programming even easier. The 81RGD and 83LM Remotes are no longer available but a compatible replacement remote would be the 893MAX Remote.
The last Liftmaster model that may have been used on the Raynor R-series or Flitestar operators is the #971RGD 1-button or #973RGD 3-button 390MHz Security + rolling code remotes. These were used for a number of years until the 315MHz frequency remote controls came into use. The 971LM Remote can be used as a replacement for the 971RGD Remote and the 893MAX Remote can be used to replace the 973RGD Remote.

There's a few other makes of radio equipment still being manufactured and may have been used on the older Raynor openers. The Multi-Code #308911 1-button 300MHz remote is made by Linear and is compatible with #109920 Multi-Code radio receiver. The Linear GT-30 Remote is a Genie compatible unit that will work with the 390MHz Genie Pro Intellicode radio receivers from 1996 or newer. The GT30 is also compatible with Overhead Door CodeDodger and Linear AM-RGR access control receivers.

This is by no means all of the radio equipment that's was or is available. Some of the older stuff is discontinued and some of it is still manufactured but isn't that popular. If you don't see your remote control then send us an email (store@garagedoorzone.com) with a description of what you are looking for and include some pictures if you can and we'll try and track it down for you or give you some options.
Is the top section starting to crack from the stress of the garage door operator? Then a reinforcement bracket may be the answer. An adjustable opener reinforcement bracket works great for attaching the garage door opener arm to the top section of the garage door. The added strength of the bracket helps keep the top sections of steel doors from cracking over extended use.
They can be adjusted to fit section heights of 18" up to 24". They're only 2" wide so in most cases the bracket can be mounted between windows if need be. You may be asking yourself this question because your garage door operator started "acting up" or parts on the operator started failing. According to a survey done by the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) based on responses from manufacturers, trade associations, and product researchers the average life expectancy of a garage door operator is 10 to 15 years.

Right now you're probably thinking to yourself..."ten years, that's not a very long time". You're right, it isn't. But you have to remember that this is an average and there are a lot of factors such as the quality of the operator, how the opener was maintained, how often the opener is used, etc. The most important factor though in determining how long an opener might last is how well the garage door works.

A poorly maintained garage door is going to shorten the life of the garage door opener faster than anything else. The springs on the garage door are engineered to do most of the lifting of the door not the operator. The garage door opener basically is used to put the door in motion so if the springs aren't doing their job or the door hinges, cables and rollers aren't in good working condition then the operator is going to be doing more than it was designed to do. And with a poorly balanced door the garage door opener is going to wear out much faster and parts in the opener are going to need to be replaced much sooner.

Here are some quick tips to help you keep your door in shape and to help extend the life of your operator. And just a reminder: if you are not comfortable or you are unable to do service to your garage door then call your local service company and have them do the preventative maintenance for you.

Check The Balance: a properly balanced door will reduce a lot of the strain on the opener. You'll need to pull the red disconnect cord on the trolley (do this while the door is in the closed position). This will release the trolley so the door can be opened and closed manually. You should be able to lift the door half way and it will stay there. If the door slams back to the floor then spring tension needs to be added and if the door flies open then the spring tension needs to be reduced. CAUTION: IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO ADJUST THE SPRINGS PROPERLY THEN CALL A PROFESSIONAL....the springs can be very dangerous and cause injury.

Lube The Door: lubrication of the moving parts on the door will make the door work smoother. Lubricate the hinges, rollers, springs and pulleys (if your door has pulleys). Use a chain & cable fluid or silicone based lubricant...don't use WD40, this will get tacky & attract dirt. 3-in-One Professional Garage Door Lube is a silicone based lube and works great on garage doors. Also spray some lubricant on the opener chain (if your opener has a chain). If you have a belt opener don't spray anything on it.

Check The Door Cables: the door will either have extension spring cables or torsion spring cables. Extension springs stretch back along the tracks while torsion springs are on a torsion bar mounted above the door on the header. Over time the cables can fray so it's best to replace them before they break. Take a rag and run it along the length of the cables. If the rag gets snagged at any point then that will give you an indication that the cable is probably fraying & should be replaced. DON'T REMOVE THE CABLES without releasing the spring tension first. Again if you are not comfortable please call a professional.

Check The Hinges & Rollers: the hinges hold all of the door sections together while the door rollers keep the sections in the track and keep the door rolling smoothly. Inspect all the hinges for cracks or tears in the metal of the hinges. Stress from the door binding could cause a hinge to break. Look over all the rollers and make sure they are all rolling freely. The average life of a roller is 10 - 12 years depending on how much the door is used and how well the door is maintained. The garage door hinges and door rollers can be replaced on an individual basis if any damaged or broken ones are found.

An annual maintenance should be done to extend the life of the opener and garage door. By showing a little attention to the door and opener you'll not only get a few more years out of them but you'll also have peace of mind knowing that your garage door & opener are operating properly and safely.

Over the years the bottom garage door seal on your Raynor garage door
can get stiff and no longer provide a good seal. Another problem that
occurs (especially if you store bird seed in your garage) is that
squirrels and chipmunks can chew holes in the seal. Most likely the
animals go into the garage when the door is open. Since they can't just
run out after you close the garage door they look
for the path of least
resistance which just happens to be the bottom seal on the garage door.

The
good thing about Raynor garage doors is that it is fairly easy to
replace the bottom seal. Unlike some door manufacturers where they crimp
the seal into the bottom of the section and make it next to impossible
to replace Raynor uses an aluminum retainer on the bottom section to
hold the seal. The bottom seal has two 1/4" T's that slide into the
retainer which forms a "U" shape of the bottom seal.

The
best time to replace the bottom seal on the garage door is during the
warmer months of the year. Although there are times during the winter
that the seal needs replaced. It can be a little more challenging but it
still can be done.

Here are a few tips for replacing the bottom seal on your Raynor garage door:

Open the garage door about 3/4 of the way. If you have an electric opener run the door open 3/4 of the way and press the wall button to stop it. If you don't have an opener then open the door 3/4 of the way and clamp a pair of vice grips on the track to keep the door from drifting closed.

Measure your existing seal for replacement. Pull the end out of the retainer and measure the width of the seal. Raynor two main sizes they use is 3" wide and 4" wide.

Measure the width of the garage door. You now know what width and length of seal you need.

Pull the seal out from the retainer. If the bottom retainer has any dents in it then it may be a little difficult to pull out. Use a screwdriver and hammer to straighten any dents so the "T" on the seal can slide through.

Use a sponge and soapy water to wipe down the aluminum retainer. This will remove any dirt and grime that may have built up. The water will also help in installing the new seal.

Put the two "T"'s into the aluminum retainer and start pulling the seal through the retainer from one side of the door to the other. It will be easier if you have someone help by "feeding" the seal into the retainer while you pull the seal. If you don't have a helper it will take a little longer.

Once you have the seal pulled through the retainer you should have 2" to 3" left over on either side of the door. Take this extra seal and tuck it back into the retainer. This will "lock" the seal in and keep it from sliding out over time.

The bottom seals can be a 3" wide vinyl bottom seal, 4" wide vinyl bottom seal, 3" wide rubber bottom seal or 4" wide rubber bottom seal. Any bigger than 4 inches wide and you could run into problems with the seal catching on the header (and the seal may be "floppy" instead of sitting on the garage floor properly). Also if the garage floor is that out of level you are better off fixing the floor.

Below are instructions on how to program a new remote into a Marantec M4500e, M4700e, or M4900e garage door opener.

Important: if you have a working remote then scroll down and follow the Programming Additional Remotes instructions otherwise start with the Programming One Remote instructions.

If you have one of the Marantec EOS garage door openers (models M4500e,
M4700e and M4900e) and don't have any working remotes then you'll need
to program one remote into the unit. Any additional remotes that you
want to use with the opener will have to be programmed by using a Programming Jumper.

You can program a Marantec Digital 382 2-button remote, Digital 384 4-button remote, M3-3313 Key Chain Remote, M3-2312 2-button remote (discontinued model) or a M3-2314 4-button remote
(discontinued model) into the powerhead by following the instructions below.

*As a side note: "universal" style remotes found in box stores and hardware stores are NOT compatible with Marantec garage door openers. Only Marantec brand remotes work with the Marantec operators.

PROGRAMMING ONE REMOTE
*Look at the powerhead (motor unit on the ceiling) and you'll see the
eight Red LED lights and the three programming buttons (P, +, -)

Press and HOLD the "P" button for about 3 seconds

PROGRAMMING ADDITIONAL REMOTES
Now, what if you have additional remotes that you want to program? This is where the programming jumper comes into play and it looks like this:

Here are the instructions to program additional remotes using the program jumper after you programmed one remote into the opener:

You connect the jumper
between the existing programmed remote and the new remote

Press and HOLD the
button on the existing remote that currently works your opener

Then
press & HOLD the button on the new remote that you want to work the
opener

The LED light on the remotes flicker & you're done.

Below we'll show a simple way to find a replacement garage door opener remote for a Liftmaster, Raynor, Chamberlain or Craftsman garage door opener. Most of the original remotes that came with the operators when they were new have been discontinued but there's still a couple still available. Even if your original remote was discontinued there's a replacement remote available.

If you lost your remote or you just moved into the home and the old
homeowners didn't leave any remotes then the following breakdown should
help you to determine which remote will work with your operator.

To
determine which remote you need you'll need to locate the Learn Button
on the operator. Below are small pictures of what the Learn Button on the garage door openers look like and the specific color of the Learn Button will determine what remote will work with them. The Learn Button will either be located on the back or
the right side of the unit near the antenna wire. You may have to remove
the light cover to see it.

Here's an example of a Yellow Learn Button on a Liftmaster garage door opener:

So which one do you buy when yours stop working? That's going to depend on how old your operator is. You'll either have the older 41A4373A Liftmaster bolt style that bolts through the mounting bracket or the newer 41A5034 Liftmaster "Snappy Sensors" that snap into the mounting bracket.
The 41A4373A Safety Sensors are compatible with Liftmaster operators manufactured from 1993 to 1997. You can tell this is the sensor you need by the bolt that goes through the center of sensor and bolts to the bracket. They're compatible with opener models 1240, 1245, 1246, 1250, 1255, 1256, 1260 and ATS. Compatible with Liftmaster, Sears, Craftsman, Chamberlain and Raynor openers manufactured since 2000.

41A5034 Sensors (new style)

The newer 41A5034 Snappy Sensors are compatible with Liftmaster operators manufactured from 1997 to current. You can recognize the Snappy Sensors because they snap into the mounting brackets. These sensors work with operator models 1265, 2265, 2280, 2500, 2580 and other current models. Compatible with Liftmaster, Sears, Craftsman and Chamberlain.

As much of a pain the safety sensors are (especially when they're not working) you need to have them. They offer protection from the garage door operator closing on your car, yourself or a loved one. You'll know they're not working if your remote won't close the door and you have to use constant pressure on the wall button to get the door to close. This doesn't mean they're broke it just means they aren't working properly. Before you buy a new set of sensors check and make sure there's nothing blocking the sensors, there's no loose wires and the sensors are "looking" at each other & aren't knocked out of alignment. If you've done that and they still don't work then you'll probably have to get new sensors.

UPDATE: Due to the 41A4373A Sensors (old style) being discontinued we've updated this post
If you determine that you have the 41A4373A Sensors (old style) then you can go with the option of using the 41A5034 Sensors (new style) but you'll also need to use the 41A5266-3 Safety Sensor Mounting Brackets since the sensors mount differently from the old 41A4373A Sensors.

Marantec Mac Lift Opener

We have covered this before but we still get a lot of inquiries about replacement remotes for the Marantec Mac-Lift garage door openers so we figured it was time to cover the topic again. An easy solution to a common problem with Marantec Maclift III garage door openers.

ML-1401V Remote

The Marantec Mac-Lift garage door openers were (Marantec no longer offers the Mac-Lift model opener) available in two models: the MacLift III Deluxe 2005 and the MacLift III Elite 2007. Both models came standard with a 40MHz frequency radio receiver and remote. Unfortunately with the end of the Mac-Lift openers came the end of the 40MHz frequency remotes and keyless entry. Marantec no longer offers any of the 40MHz remotes: ML-1401V, ML-1402V and ML-1404V. The ML-640 keyless entry keypad has also been discontinued. So called "universal" remotes found in stores that claim to work with everything will not work with Marantec openers. There is a solution though....

There is a solution! Marantec offers a replacement radio receiver set that hooks up to your Mac-Lift garage door opener. The #75424 Plug-in Radio Receiver Set is a simple solution and much cheaper than having to buy a whole new garage door operator. The plug-in radio receiver does just that...it plugs into an
electrical outlet near the garage door opener. You then connect two wires from the plug-in receiver to the back of the garage door opener. Then you press the program button on the plug-in receiver and press the button on the new remote. That's it...not much to it. A simple solution and you'll get many more years out of your Mac Lift garage door opener.

The #75424 Plug-in Radio Receiver Set comes complete with: One 75424 Plug-in radio receiver, one (1) 382 Digital 2-Button 315MHz Remote, 2-strand bell wire and installation instructions. Everything you need in one box. If you have a two bay garage and have Marantec Mac Lift garage door openers on both garage doors then you would need a separate 75424 Plug-in Radio Receiver Set for each operator.

Additional 382 Digital 2-button Remotes , 384 Digital 4-button Remotes or M3-3313 Micro Remotes can be added to 75424 Plug-in Radio Receiver. A wireless keypad can also be added. The Marantec M13-631 Wireless Keyless Entry Keypad is the latest version.

Marantec M13-631 Keypad

To program the keyless entry you'll use a programmed remote to transfer the code from the remote to the additional keyless and add your 4-digit pin number. It's actually pretty simple. The only problem is that once the keyless is programmed you'll notice a delay every time you use the keyless entry - you have to hold your finger on the enter key after you enter your 4-digit pin for 4 or 5 seconds before the opener will run. This can be a little bit of a pain if you're in a hurry but that's the way the keyless works with the plug-in receiver.
Below are instructions on programming a garage door remote to the Marantec model M4500 and model M4700 operators. You'll only use the instructions below if you don't have any remotes programmed to the operator. The Marantec operators can only hold the code of one remote. Additional remotes copy the code of the one programmed remote so if you are looking to program additional remotes check out the blog post Programming Marantec Remote Video here. However, what do you do if you don't have an existing remote (perhaps
you lost it or you just moved into the home and they didn't leave you a
remote). Here's a rundown on how to program a new remote by using the
buttons on the powerhead (motor) unit on the ceiling.
One minor difference between the Digital 382 Remote
and the M3-2312 Remote is that the new remote doesn't
have the small hole near the bottom of the remote that
the M3-2312 Remote did. Not a big deal but some
homeowners would use that hole to attach the remote
to a keychain. We recommend that you purchase the
The remote works on the current 315MHz frequency that the Marantec operators use (which is the same frequency the M3-2312 used).

A few years ago we had a blog post explaining how LED and low energy fluorescent bulbs could cause interference with your garage door operator remotes. The problem with most of those bulbs is that they aren't made for garage door operators and they are cheaply made. The rattling and movement of the operator can cause the internal components of those bulbs to break. When they break they will still light up but they can also transmit a frequency that blocks the radio signal being sent from the remote.

Genie has solved those problems with the new LEDB1-R Garage Door Opener LED Light Bulb. The bulb is specifically made for garage door operators and will work in almost any operator. Here are some of the specifics of the LEDB1-R:

Brightness - 800 lumens (equivalent to 60 watts)

Estimated Yearly Energy Cost - $1.07 per year (based on 3hrs day / .11/kWh)

Life - 22.8 years (based on 3 hours/day)

Light Appearance - warm (3000 k)

Energy Used - 10 watts

Mercury Free

The bulb puts out the equivalent to 60 watts which is plenty for most garages. It is also vibration resistant and tested to withstand temperatures up to -22F. This LED bulb is made for garage door operators will probably outlast the operator itself with a life expectancy of 22.8 years! Most garage door operators have a life expectancy of 10-15 years.

Do you want a light bulb that's made for your operator and you'll probably never have to replace again (at least until you have to replace the operator itself)? The Genie LEDB1-R LED Light Bulb is the answer. You can purchase and find out more about the bulb here at the Garage Door Zone.
The models included in this series of doors were the Affina, Centura and Relante. As of August 12, 2016 Raynor is no longer manufacturing this series of doors.

The Affina, Centura and Relante models were the main residential garage doors that Raynor has offered for the past 14 years. So why has Raynor decided to shut down the production line and retool the machines necessary to make a different door? I don't know except to say that the new model of door that they are coming out with on September 19th 2016 will not have the "pinch proof" section design that the Innovations Series of doors had. I would think that is a major reason for the new models that will incorporate a more standard tongue & groove design. Here is what to expect from the new models of garage doors by Raynor according to their website:

Raynor's new residential door line called the Aspen™ series will
be available September 19, 2016.
The Aspen residential door line is a thermally efficient,
Neufoam™ (polyurethane) technology door, available in 1-3/8" and 2"
thicknesses and will feature:

Exclusive new Raynor WeatherLock™ tongue and groove section joint, with full thermal break

Air and water section joint seals

8 colors and 2 woodgrain finishes

New recessed ranch and colonial embossments in
conventional and carriage house spacing; flush panels; plank (beadline)
panels; raised colonial and ranch embossments and mixed panels in both
raised and recessed panels.

Injection molded colonial and ranch frames and inserts

Wide variety of decorative hardware

Supplied with heavy-duty nylon rollers

Optional EnduraCote™ track & hardware

When the Innovations doors came out I was not a complete fan because of the pinch proof design of the sections. Because of this design the doors had to use specially made hinges and bottom cable brackets. This added unnecessary costs to the doors. Plus the fact that most homeowners didn't care about the pinch proof design because they have garage door operators on their doors. They almost never operated their doors manually so the chance of getting one's fingers closed in the garage door were almost nil.

I'm excited to see the new doors offered by Raynor. I think this is a good move but think it's one they should've made years ago. I have had a Centura garage door on my home for the past 14 years and love it. Before putting the door on the garage the bedroom above the garage was always cold in the winter. Since installing a good insulated door on the garage the bedroom stays nice and warm in the winter (as does the garage).

What if you need parts for the Affina, Centura or Relante? If you need rollers, cables, pulleys or bottom seals you'll still be able to get them for years to come as those are common garage door parts (and can be found here at the Garage Door Zone store). You'll also still be able to get the extension and torsion springs from your local Raynor dealer since those are also common garage door parts. What about the hinges and replacement sections? I'm sure Raynor still has plenty of hinges & bottom cable brackets in stock and probably will for a few years. I doubt that they will manufacture any more once they run out of stock though. As far as replacement sections? Unfortunately we're out of luck. They are retooling the machine that makes the Innovations garage doors so they can make the new Aspen line of garage doors so they won't be able to make replacement sections. So drive carefully & try not to hit your door because you can't get replacement sections.

What do you do if you need to replace an Innovations door or have a warranty issue with an Innovations door? Contact your local Raynor dealer (which you can lookup here). Raynor Mfg. has always been very good with customer support and will probably work with homeowners on a case by case issue.
The bottom seal is essential to any garage door. The seal helps keep out the wind, rain & insects. Over time the bottom seal will harden and no longer seal to the floor like it did when it was first new. This can happen in as little as 3-4 years or you may not notice it for 8-10 years but it will eventually happen. It all depends on where you live and what type of weather your garage door has to endure.

WHY DO I NEED SEAL?: The vinyl seal can get hard and it won't seal tight along the garage floor. A new seal will be more flexible and follow the small contours of the floor better. A new bottom seal can help keep water out of the garage but there's no guarantee that it will stop it. If you install new bottom seal on the garage door and you're still getting water in the garage then you have other problems that need addressed and more than likely it's the garage floor. The floor may have cracked, sunk or slopes in a way that is letting the water in...most of the time new seal won't stop the water from coming in. The floor should be corrected to keep the water out.

HOW TO IDENTIFY A RAYNOR BRAND OF GARAGE DOOR: If you purchased your house that already had an existing garage door then you probably don't know what brand it is or perhaps you purchased the garage door so long ago that you can't remember. Finding out what brand of garage door you have will make things easier when purchasing bottom seal. Some brands of garage doors use the same type of seal as Raynor but most of them are different so identifying the brand will be helpful for finding the correct seal.

Raynor brand garage doors have a sticker on the end stile of the sections that contain a lot of info about the door. Look on the end of the sections of your door for a white sticker. Once you find it (don't remove it) you'll be able to find all the info you need. It may be a little hard to read so using a flashlight is recommended or you can take a picture of the sticker with your phone & read the info off your phone.

Below is a picture of a sample tag found on all Raynor garage doors. There's a lot of different info on the tag but the most important is the manufacturer. If you see Raynor Garage Doors then you have a Raynor door. Don't remove the sticker as there is other info on the tag that will be useful if you ever need to replace a part or a section of the door. The Door Serial Number is also on the tag but isn't shown in the picture below (the serial number is off to the right). This is usually a six digit number with a letter in front of it (like B321456). So if you have a warranty issue or need to replace a section you can give that number to a Raynor dealer & they can have Raynor Mfg. look it up. This will give the dealer all the info they need to help you in getting the correct replacement part or section.

What if you can't find any stickers on the door? Someone has either removed the stickers or it's not a Raynor door. You can still determine if the Raynor seal will work on your door by looking at the bottom seal. Below we explain the different Raynor bottom seals.

NO RAYNOR TAG? NO PROBLEM - MEASURE YOUR SEAL: If you can't find a Raynor tag (like the one pictured above) on your door it doesn't mean that you don't have a Raynor door or that the Raynor seal won't work in your door. You'll need to measure the existing seal on your door.

Disengage your garage door opener (if you have one) and lift the door manually. Raise the garage door about 3/4 of the way open. Put a pair of vise grips on the track just below the bottom roller - this will keep the door from falling. If you do this using the opener you should unplug the opener while doing this so no one presses the opener button & starts the door in motion while you're looking at the seal.

You should now have easier access to the seal from the end.

The end of the seal is probably tucked back into the seal retainer. This is done to keep the seal from sliding out of the retainer. Pull the tucked piece out of the seal.

Measure the "T" part of the seal. If you're having a problem measuring it you could cut a 1"-2" piece of seal off.

If the "T" measures 1/4" then you know that you may have a Raynor door but more importantly know that your door needs the 1/4" "T" seal.

Also measure the seal as it lays flat. The seal should measure 3" or 4" across - these are the two widths of seal that Raynor use.

THE DIFFERENT RAYNOR SEALS: Assuming that you found the sticker on the garage door (or measured your existing seal) and identified it as a Raynor brand garage door lets take a look at the four different seals available for the Raynor brand doors.
First let's look at a profile of the seal. Raynor uses what is called a "T" seal. The seal has a "T" on either side with the seal material between the two "T"'s. The seal slides into the aluminum retainer on the bottom of the garage door with each "T" on the seal sliding into a slot on either side of the retainer forming a "U" shape.
IMPORTANT: Raynor seals have 1/4" "T"'s on their seal. A couple other brands also use 1/4" "T" seal but most of what you'll find in the hardware & box stores is 5/16" "T" seal. The 5/16" "T" seal is too big for the retainer on Raynor doors & won't work. Some vendors online claim to have a seal that will work on Raynor doors but their seal actually is 5/16" "T" and won't work in Raynor doors.

There are two different widths of seal available - 3" and 4". The width of the seal is determined by measuring the seal when it is laying flat. The 3" seal is what is installed on the doors at the factory. Most likely this is what's on your door BUT it's possible your door has the 4" seal. The factory could put the 4" seal on the door if the dealer requests it when the door is ordered or if the dealer puts it on while they are installing the door. The reason this would be done is usually because of a known problem with your garage floor that was noticed by the dealer.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 3" AND 4" SEAL: Some people may think that the 4" seal is better than the 3" seal....bigger is better right?
Not in this case. The 3" seal is the standard seal used because it usually will do the best job. The only reason to use the 4" seal is when the garage floor is out of level. The 4" seal is able to fill in some of the gap between the bottom of the garage door and the uneven floor. It's usually only about a 1/4" - 1/2" gap that the seal can fill. If your floor is anymore out of level than that then you should fix the problem with the floor. So if your door doesn't need the 4" seal it's not recommended.
TIP: Use 1/2" pipe insulation inside your weather seal to help keep the "U" shape of the bottom seal. It works well in both the 3" and 4" seals. The pipe insulation won't absorb water and will help in filling in any small gaps in the floor. It will also keep the seal in a "U" shape and keep the seal from getting floppy or folding over. You can usually find it at the hardware store in the plumbing supplies. Note that if you do put the pipe
insulation in your seal you may have to readjust the garage door operator down travel limit since the pipe insulation will slightly raise the door and the operator will sense it as an obstruction. Read the owners manual for your operator on how to adjust the operator's down travel limit.
The gray seal is the standard seal that is installed on the doors at the factory. The gray seal is made of vinyl and is thinner & more flexible than the black seal. The black seal is made of rubber, has ribs on one side and is a little more heavy duty. Both seals are made specifically for Raynor doors but will work in other makes of garage doors that have retainers that accept a 1/4" T" seal.
BUYING RAYNOR SEAL: At the Garage Door Zone store we offer the Raynor seal that is used on Raynor garage doors. This seal can also be used in other brands of garage doors that use the 1/4" "T" seal. The seal is available in 3" Gray Vinyl, 4" Gray Vinyl, 3" Black Rubber and 4" Black Rubber. All of the seals are cut to the width of your garage door plus 4"-6". The seal is cut an extra 4"-6" so you'll have that extra seal to tuck back into the retainer. So if you have a 16' wide door and order the 16' seal you'll actually receive a 16'6" seal. You may wonder why the extra seal...if you tuck the extra seal back into the retainer this will keep the seal from coming out of the retainer over time. Click Here to go to the Garage Door Zone store and purchase bottom garage door seal today!
