Raynor Discontinues Innovations Series Of Garage Doors

Since 2002 Raynor has offered a line of garage doors named the Innovations Series. The models included in this series of doors were the Affina, Centura and Relante. As of August 12, 2016 Raynor is no longer manufacturing this series of doors.

The Affina, Centura and Relante models were the main residential garage doors that Raynor has offered for the past 14 years. So why has Raynor decided to shut down the production line and retool the machines necessary to make a different door? I don't know except to say that the new model of door that they are coming out with on September 19th 2016 will not have the "pinch proof" section design that the Innovations Series of doors had. I would think that is a major reason for the new models that will incorporate a more standard tongue & groove design. Here is what to expect from the new models of garage doors  by Raynor according to their website:

Raynor's new residential door line called the Aspen™ series will be available September 19, 2016. The Aspen residential door line is a thermally efficient, Neufoam™ (polyurethane) technology door, available in 1-3/8" and 2" thicknesses and will feature:

• Exclusive new Raynor WeatherLock™ tongue and groove section joint, with full thermal break
• Air and water section joint seals
• 8 colors and 2 woodgrain finishes
• New recessed ranch and colonial embossments in conventional and carriage house spacing; flush panels; plank (beadline) panels; raised colonial and ranch embossments and mixed panels in both raised and recessed panels.
• Injection molded colonial and ranch frames and inserts
• Wide variety of decorative hardware
• Supplied with heavy-duty nylon rollers
• Optional EnduraCote™ track & hardware

When the Innovations doors came out I was not a complete fan because of the pinch proof design of the sections. Because of this design the doors had to use specially made hinges and bottom cable brackets. This added unnecessary costs to the doors. Plus the fact that most homeowners didn't care about the pinch proof design because they have garage door operators on their doors. They almost never operated their doors manually so the chance of getting one's fingers closed in the garage door were almost nil.

I'm excited to see the new doors offered by Raynor. I think this is a good move but think it's one they should've made years ago. I have had a Centura garage door on my home for the past 14 years and love it. Before putting the door on the garage the bedroom above the garage was always cold in the winter. Since installing a good insulated door on the garage the bedroom stays nice and warm in the winter (as does the garage).

What if you need parts for the Affina, Centura or Relante? If you need rollers, cables, pulleys or bottom seals you'll still be able to get them for years to come as those are common garage door parts (and can be found here at the Garage Door Zone store).  You'll also still be able to get the extension and torsion springs from your local Raynor dealer since those are also common garage door parts. What about the hinges and replacement sections? I'm sure Raynor still has plenty of hinges & bottom cable brackets in stock and probably will for a few years. I doubt that they will manufacture any more once they run out of stock though. As far as replacement sections? Unfortunately we're out of luck. They are retooling the machine that makes the Innovations garage doors so they can make the new Aspen line of garage doors so they won't be able to make replacement sections. So drive carefully & try not to hit your door because you can't get replacement sections.
