Finding A Compatible Remote For Your Raynor Garage Door Opener

Finding a compatible replacement remote for your Raynor garage door opener can be tricky sometimes. There are different styles, button configurations and models that seem to come and go every couple of years. And with those changes there are also differences in radio frequencies that the remotes use so matching up the correct remote to your Raynor opener can be confusing.

Finding the right remote to work with your opener no longer has to be confusing though with the introduction of the Liftmaster 893MAX Remote a few years ago. The 893MAX is a 3-button remote
that can work on 390MHz and 315MHz frequencies and be programmed to work three garage door openers. It is backwards compatible which means it can replace all of the previous models of remotes of which many have been discontinued.

As far as a compatible replacement for Raynor garage door openers it will work on all Raynor garage door openers manufactured since 2000. There's a list below of all of the Raynor openers that the 893MAX Remote will work with. If you have an older Raynor Flitestar or R-Series garage door opener then please read our other blog post: Raynor Remotes Part II - Flitestar and R-Series Openers. We cover the different remotes that have been used over the years and how you can find the correct one for your opener.

As mentioned above the 893MAX Remote replaces all of the previous remotes that have been used with the Raynor garage door openers manufactured since 2000. Here is a list of the remotes that the 893MAX remote replaces.

Raynor Remotes Part II - Flitestar & R-Series Openers

Finally, I can address the other Raynor remotes that people ask about. A month or so ago I addressed remote controls for the newer style of Raynor operators (Pilot, Aviator, Commander, etc.). Now I'm going to cover the remotes for the Raynor Flitestar and R-Series (R110/210, R120/220, R130/230, R150/250, R160/260 and R170/270) garage door operators.

First, the radio receiver for the Flitestar and R-Series of operators is not built into the units like the current operators. This means that the installation company or distributor you got the operator from added the receiver when it was installed. This can cause some problems when trying to help customers because there were many different radio receivers on the market 10 or 20 years ago that the installer could have used so I can't cover them all. I will cover the one's we've used and are still available. If you don't see yours below then the receiver & remotes may or may not still be available. The best thing to do is to email us at: store@garagedoorzone.com and I'll try to help you. Please include the make and model number of the radio receiver attached to the opener (you will probably have to remove the receiver and look on the back for this information).

Linear - very common in the 1980's to early 90's. This equipment is still being manufactured. If you have a Linear Delta-3 radio receiver then the Linear DT-1 Remote is what you need. There are 8 DIP switches in the remote that are matched up to the 8 switches on the back of the radio receiver. This was good reliable radio equipment and is still being used by some.

Liftmaster - in the late 80's this equipment started to become popular and is probably the most popular radio equipment on the market today. If you have a model #500RGD (500LM) radio receiver then you'll probably have the #61RGD 1-button remote or #63RGD 3-button remote. These remotes are easy to distinguish by the red LED light on them and the 9 trinary DIP switches in the battery compartment. The 61RGD Remotes are no longer available but you can use the 61LM Remote which is the same. The 63RGD also is no longer available but the 33LM Remote is a compatible replacement.
The next model of remotes by Liftmaster to come out were the #81RGD 1-button and #83LM 3-button remotes. These are the 390MHz "Billion Code" style remotes and worked with the #520RGD and #540RGD radio receivers. They eliminated the DIP switches and incorporated the "Smart Button" technology into the #8xx series of remotes making the programming even easier. The 81RGD and 83LM Remotes are no longer available but a compatible replacement remote would be the 893MAX Remote.
The last Liftmaster model that may have been used on the Raynor R-series or Flitestar operators is the #971RGD 1-button or #973RGD 3-button 390MHz Security + rolling code remotes. These were used for a number of years until the 315MHz frequency remote controls came into use. The 971LM Remote can be used as a replacement for the 971RGD Remote and the 893MAX Remote can be used to replace the 973RGD Remote.


There's a few other makes of radio equipment still being manufactured and may have been used on the older Raynor openers. The Multi-Code #308911 1-button 300MHz remote is made by Linear and is compatible with #109920 Multi-Code radio receiver. The Linear GT-30 Remote is a Genie compatible unit that will work with the 390MHz Genie Pro Intellicode radio receivers from 1996 or newer. The GT30 is also compatible with Overhead Door CodeDodger and Linear AM-RGR access control receivers.

This is by no means all of the radio equipment that's was or is available. Some of the older stuff is discontinued and some of it is still manufactured but isn't that popular. Get the Correct Remote for a Liftmaster or Raynor Door Opener

Below we'll show a simple way to find a replacement garage door opener remote for a Liftmaster, Raynor, Chamberlain or Craftsman garage door opener. Most of the original remotes that came with the operators when they were new have been discontinued but there's still a couple still available. Even if your original remote was discontinued there's a replacement remote available.

If you lost your remote or you just moved into the home and the old homeowners didn't leave any remotes then the following breakdown should help you to determine which remote will work with your operator.

To determine which remote you need you'll need to locate the Learn Button on the operator. Below are small pictures of what the Learn Button on the garage door openers look like and the specific color of the Learn Button will determine what remote will work with them. The Learn Button will either be located on the back or the right side of the unit near the antenna wire. You may have to remove the light cover to see it.

Here's an example of a Yellow Learn Button on a Liftmaster garage door opener:

If your garage door opener has a Green Learn Program Button then it uses the Billion Code Technology and is compatible with the following remotes and keyless entry.

Do you need to replace the wall control station on your Raynor operator? Make sure you get the correct one because they aren't all the same. The Raynor operator 882RGD Multi-Function Wall Control Panel can be used on all the Security+2.0 Raynor operators that have a Yellow learn button and a Yellow antenna. Video: How To Find A Remote For An Older Raynor Garage Door Operator

Below is a short video on how to find out which remote or keyless entry will work with your older Raynor garage door operator. This basically covers the Raynor operators made pre-1998 and include the following models: Flitestar, R170, R270, R160, R260, R150, R250, R130, R120 and R110.

You'll need to remove the external radio receiver from the back of the garage door operator and write down the manufacturer, model number, radio frequency and any other information you find on the back of the receiver. Once you have that info send us an email and we'll try to determine which (if any) remote control or keyless entry will work with your operator.

Raynor Replaces The Pilot Opener With The Pilot II

Raynor has discontinued the Pilot 1/2 h.p. residential operator and introduced the new Pilot II 1/2 h.p. residential operator. The operator itself looks the same as the old model and is still a 1/2 h.p. chain drive unit but the big difference is that it is now equipped with the MyQ technology. The opener comes packaged with two (2) 893RGX 3-button remotes and one (1) 877 Keyless Entry.

With the new MyQ technology you'll be able to open and close your garage door with your smartphone or computer by adding the 828LM Internet Gateway accessory to the opener. You can also add the 829LM Garage Door Monitor so you can tell if your garage door is open or closed from the comfort of your bedroom (or any room you choose to put the monitor).

With the introduction of the Pilot II opener Raynor now has six residential garage door operators with MyQ technology built into the logic boards: Prodigy II, Ultra II, Admiral II, Aviator II, Pilot II and Corporal II. The Raynor Airman operator is the only operator in the Raynor residential lineup that is not MyQ compatible unless an 888LM MyQ Wall Station is added to the unit.

All of the residential operators currently in the Raynor line up (including the Airman model) can use the 893RGX remote and the 877 Keyless Entry.

Raynor 6080404 R170 / R270 Garage Door Opener Logic Board Discontinued

Raynor Manufacturing has discontinued the replacement logic board (part #6080404) for their model R170 and R270 garage door operators. Other replacement parts have been discontinued in the past year or two such as the light covers and PEC-R4 photo-eyes. Other parts will follow as Raynor's stock of replacement parts is depleted.

Raynor 6100002 15-Tooth Idler Sprocket Discontinued

UPDATE: August 2018:  REPLACEMENT SPROCKET NOW AVAILABLE 

Although the original 15-tooth sprocket (shown below) was discontinued by Raynor in 2014 we have found another sprocket that will work in place of it. This sprocket is exactly the same as the old discontinued sprocket except the bolt hole is slightly larger & the sprocket doesn't have the same height. To adjust for these differences we include a nylon insert that makes the hole the correct size to work with the original sprocket bolt and a washer to give the sprocket the correct height.

So if you have an old Raynor R170/270, R160/260, R150/250, R130, R120, R110 or Flitestar operator and it's still working except for a broken front idler sprocket then you can get it up & running again with a New Sprocket! Purchase a new front idler sprocket HERE!!!!

Raynor 15-tooth Idler Sprocket Discontinued (08-01-14)

The Raynor 15-tooth idler sprocket (part #6100002) found on the older Raynor operators has been discontinued. This sprocket could be found on the front of the trolley rail for the following Raynor opener models: Flitestar, R170/R270, R160/R260, R150/R250, and R130/R230.
 

 





Unfortunately this is one of the few parts that can wear out over time on these older openers. The only other parts that tend to need replaced are the logic boards, belts, trolley assembly, photo-eyes and radio controls. As of this writing the only logic board still available is the #6080404 Logic Board for the R170 model. The 3L-310 v-belt for the R-series of openers is also still available. Some of the other small parts are also still available and can be found here. Most of the radio equipment is still available for the openers but you should contact us to find the correct radio controls.

Other parts no longer available for these openers include the PEC-R4 Safety Sensors, #4050053 Inner Trolley Assembly, Logic Boards for the Flitestar, R150/250, R130/230, R120/220 and R110/210. 

As of 08/01/14 we still have a few of the 6100002 15-tooth idler sprocket that can be found here.

Raynor Introduces New Airman Operator

Raynor Manufacturing has introduced a new garage door operator to their lineup - The Airman.

The operator has a 1/2 h.p. belt drive motor, rolling code Security+ radio equipment, sensing technology to allow your door to stop closing if it comes in contact with a person or object, Posilock to ensure the door is locked when it's closed, Protector System photo-eyes that will reverse the opener if any object breaks the invisible light beam, 100-watt lighting, one (1) 371RGD remote control and a multi-function wall control.

Optional accessories are available for the unit. A keyless entry can be added to the outside jamb of the garage so you can enter your garage by entering a four digit code. A mini 3-button remote is also available which can be attached to  a key chain and control up to three openers. If you have a Liftmaster or Raynor garage door operator that is equipped with the 828LM Internet Gateway and use the MyQ app to open and close your garage door using your smart phone or computer be aware that Liftmaster is planning an outage and you won't be able to use the app. The outage is planned for Thursday April 10th at 2:30am (EST) and should last for 2-1/2 hours.

Here's the information from Liftmaster:

This week we will be performing a planned maintenance event to improve the overall performance of the MyQ app. We recently updated the MyQ Android app to deliver faster response times and to build on this, we are making additional upgrades to the rest of our service. The maintenance will be performed Thursday, April 10th during a 2.5 hour window beginning at 2:30 AM (EDT). During the maintenance window you will experience downtime on the LiftMaster MyQ App and should expect the following:

• You will not be able to open or close the garage door/gate or control lighting from the MyQ App or MyQ web page.
• You will not be able to accurately see the opened/closed status of your garage door or gate.
• You will not receive any alerts during this time.

Q: I have a Raynor Pilot operator (1265RGD) and the gear is all chewed up. Is there a gear that replaces this one? - Mark

A: Yes there is a replacement gear assembly available. After about 8 - 10 years the plastic gear in the Pilot (and also the Raynor Navigator & Corporal) opener can wear out. If you open the cover of your operator and find small white shavings then it's time to replace the gear. The best thing to do is to replace the whole gear assembly. The 41C4220A Gear Assembly includes the drive gear, worm gear and other parts to replace the whole assembly. Once the new gear assembly is installed put grease on the gear and you should get another 8 - 10 years out of your opener.

A: Thanks for the question Simon. The 877MAX Keyless Entry is a newer Liftmaster product that covers many different model of openers including most of the Raynor operators. As far as the Raynor Corporal opener you can use either the 877MAX Keyless Entry or the 377LM Keyless Entry which is specifically for the 315MHz frequency. Either keyless will work just fine and are easy to program.

Two products will need to be added to the operator for it to work: 888LM MyQ Wall Station - this replaces the existing wall station and is easily installed by removing the existing wall station and connecting the two wires to the new 888LM Wall Station. The second product to add is the 829LM Monitor which plugs into any household outlet and programmed to the 888LM Wall Station. That's all there is too it.

41A4885-2 Gear Assembly for Raynor 1280RGD Aviator Opener

The gear assembly in the Raynor 1280RGD Aviator garage door operator can wear out or break over time. The good news is that the operator can be fixed.

The replacement 41A4885-2 Gear Assembly is for the Raynor 1280RGD Aviator operator (mfg before 2002). If you happen to have a newer 2280RGD or 3280RGD Aviator operator then you'll need the 41A4885-5 Gear Assembly.


With a little time and patience you should be able to have your operator fixed in an hour or two by following the installation instructions.

41C4220A Replacement Gear - Raynor Pilot Opener (1265RGD/2265RGD/3265RGD)

Over time the gear assembly in the Raynor Pilot garage door opener (models 1265RGD, 2265RGD, and 3265RGD) can wear out. Most gear assemblies tend to last 6 - 10 years but that can vary on the amount of use the opener has seen and how much maintenance and upkeep has been done on the door & opener over the years.

With a little bit of time and patience the gear assembly can be replaced in an hour or two by following the installation instructions and the operator should be good for another 6 - 10 years.

The Raynor R150 Opener....We Bid You Goodbye

Raynor R-Series Garage Door Opener

The Raynor R150 garage door operator (and it's predecessors the R130, R120, R110 & R100) were probably some of the best garage door operators ever made. That's a bold statement I know but they were (and some still are) a very solid and reliable machine.

The Raynor R-Series of garage door openers weren't all fancy and shiny like the openers being manufactured today. You couldn't turn the lights on or off. You couldn't look at a wall station and find out what the temperature in the garage was. You couldn't use your smart phone to open the door. But there was one thing you could use the opener for....OPEN AND CLOSE THE GARAGE DOOR! What a novel idea. The R150 opener was a basic unit but it always did what it was supposed to do. And the maintenance on them was minimal...a little lube on the chain once in a while and maybe a new belt every 8 or 9 years...no worries.

Somewhere along the line the garage door opener manufacturers decided that you (the consumer) were not happy with the existing garage door openers on the market. They weren't "sleek" enough...there weren't enough buttons to play with...they were too noisy. I don't buy it though. I think the manufacturers forced all the new gadgetry and bells & whistles onto the consumers...they didn't ask for them. And what does the consumer get it return? They get a machine that is built outside of the U.S. (China, Canada, Mexico), has expensive electronics and can be finicky and hard to maintain. If you get 10 years out of a opener being manufactured today then you're about average. Unlike the Raynor R-Series of openers that were built 20 to 30 years ago and are still going strong in some garages!

Unfortunately the R-Series is slowly fading away though. The precious logic boards for the R150 and older openers are no longer being manufactured. If the logic board gets fried by a lightning strike...to the dumpster you go old friend. Make way for the "new & improved" opener of today. Some other parts like the front idler sprocket and drive sprocket are still available but I would imagine that those parts will slowly be faded out also.

So if you have an old Raynor opener...cherish it. Go out to the garage right now and spray a little lube on the chain...show it a little love for all the years of service it has given you. If you're lucky you'll get another 5 or 10 years out of it.
