67359 Cover for Marantec M3-631 Keyless Entry Discontinued

Marantec has decided to discontinue the replacement part #67359 cover (lid) for their M3-631 Keyless Entry as of January 2015.
 

The M3-631 keyless entry was discontinued in 2013 and replaced with the M13-631 Wireless Keyless Entry.

The New M13-631 Marantec Wireless Keyless Entry

Marantec has recently introduced the new M13-631 Wireless Keyless Entry for their garage door operator lineup.

Over the past few years Marantec has been using the M3-631 Keyless Entry for all of their current openers but there were a few drawbacks to that keyless. Fortunately Marantec seems to have addressed some of those issues and made improvements in the new M13-631 Keyless Entry.

This keyless works like the old one in that you pick a 4-digit PIN number to operate the opener. That's where the similarities seem to end. Here is a list of some of the improvements with the new keyless entry:

• Holds 4 Different PINs - you can program it to work four separate Marantec openers or program one opener with four different PINs
• Improved Faceplate Numbers - the numbers are now raised, backlit and harder which means they should last longer from use
• Slide Up Cover - the cover over the numbers slides up instead of flipping up which will keep it from blowing in the wind & breaking like the old one
• Uses AAA Batteries - the unit includes (and uses) two AAA batteries. Easy to replace batteries and should last longer than 3volt batteries
• Low Battery Indicator - now you don't have to guess if the batteries are low. Keypad buttons flash when batteries need replaced.
• No Jumper Needed To Program - the old keyless needed a jumper to transfer the code from the remote to the keyless. Most people lost or misplaced the jumper so it wasn't convenient. With the new M13-613 Keyless you just hold a working remote up to the keyless & press the button on the remote to start the programming process.
• Programming Tip: install a new CR2032 3-volt battery in your remote before you try to program the keyless. With a strong battery the programming should work fine. With an older battery in the remote it may take 7 or 8 tries (or may not work at all).

With a little thought it seems Marantec has improved the design and functionality with the new M13-631 Wireless Keyless Entry. Sleek new design, easy programming and durability. A great addition to go along with the following Marantec opener models: M55, M4500, M4700,  Q7500, Q7700, Q7900, M4500e, M4700e, M4900e, Synergy 270, Synergy 370, Synergy 380

Marantec M3-631 Keyless Cover

Sometimes with use things tend to break. Well, with the Marantec M3-631 Wireless Keyless Entry the weak spot seems to be the cover that closes over the numeric keypad. With use and exposure to the elements the cover can crack or break so the tabs no longer stay in the holes and you're left with either taping the cover on or replacing it. Fortunately the covers are inexpensive and look a lot better than duct tape.

UPDATE: The M3-631 Keyless Entry has been discontinued by Marantec along with the replacement cover and neither are available. If your M3-631 Keyless is broke or worn out then you should replace it with the new Marantec M13-631 Keyless Entry found here.

New Marantec M13-631 Keyless Entry

Marantec M3-631 Wireless Keyless Keypad

The Marantec M3-631 Wireless Keyless Entry System. Marantec isn't the first company to make a keyless entry but what a great invention. The keyless entry has been around for a number of years but it still ranks as one of the best additions to the electric garage opener. No longer do you need to carry those bulky house keys around. Just enter four digits (if you remember them) and your in the garage. I've actually met people who depend solely on the keyless entry to get into their house (maybe your one of them). Not a very good idea. If the power goes out your stuck outside until it comes back on. I suggest if you do this that you at least hide a house key outside under a rock or something.

The Marantec M3-631 Wireless Keyless Entry is a 315MHz unit. It will work with all of the Marantec operators that have the 315MHz radio receiver. If you look on the back of your remote control you'll see the frequency printed on it - if it is 315MHz then the M3-631 is compatible with your operator.

You can control up to 3 Marantec garage door operators with one keyless entry. For the keyless entry system to work you'll need to transfer the code from a working M3-2312, M3-2314, or M3-3313 remote control using a jumper cable. If you have one of the older model remotes from the ML series you'll need to request an "old to new" jumper cable when you order it.

One note of warning about the M3-631 Marantec keyless entry - there is a plastic membrane over the keypad numbers. Do not use your car keys, fingernails, or any other sharp object to press on the numbers. If you do then it will eventually damage the keypad. Some people have said they've done this because the numbers weren't lighting up when they pressed them with their fingers. If the numbers don't seem to be responding to the pressure of your finger then take the keypad off the jamb. There's a screw on the bottom of the mounting plate - turn it and the keypad will lift off. Take the 4 screws off the back and pull the keyless apart. Inside is a rubber membrane with nubs that depress the actuators on the control board. If these get misaligned sometimes the numbers won't light up. Make sure that it is seated so they depress properly. Check the batteries while you're in there to make sure they're not dead. Put the screws back in and tighten. Test the unit and see if it works any better (8 times out of 10 it will).

What Marantec Remote Do I Need?

We get asked this question a lot - "Which remote do I need for my Marantec electric operator?"

The easiest way to determine which remote you need is to look on the back side of an existing remote. You should see the frequency printed on the remote, for example: 315MHz. If you don't have a remote (you lost it or you just moved into a new home) you can find the frequency by looking at the radio receiver. Here's a picture of the 315MHz Marantec module receiver:

This receiver plugs in to the power head unit on the ceiling and the antenna wire hangs down. You'll probably have to get a ladder to climb up to the unit an pull the receiver out. The MHz should be printed on the back side. Make sure your plug the receiver back in after you write down the MHz frequency.

Now - if you have a 315MHz radio receiver or remote then any of the following remotes will work with your opener: M3-2312 2-button remote, M3-3313 3-button remote, M3-2314 4-button remote or M13-631 keyless entry.

If you have a 433.92MHz receiver or remote then the M3-2342 2-button remote will work for you.

Finally, if the frequency is either 40MHz or 390MHz you are out of luck. Marantec no longer manufactures replacement remotes in either of these frequencies. HOWEVER, don't give up yet. We have a solution. You can add a #75424 Marantec Plug-in Receiver Set to your existing opener. The set comes with a new radio receiver, one remote and installation instructions.

Run two wires from the plug-in receiver to the back of the power head unit, program the remote and you're good to go!
